
COREY GEMMELL

Corey Lyle Gemmell, violinist, currently makes his home in Markham, Ontario. He has distinguished himself as a soloist and chamber musician throughout Canada, Germany, the United States and China and has performed much of the standard concerto repertoire with orchestra.
Mr. Gemmell is concertmaster for the Burlington Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Toronto, Mississauga Symphony Orchestra, Scarborough Philharmonic Orchestra and the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir Orchestra. He has performed in this role with the National Academy Orchestra, the Elora Festival Orchestra, the Toronto Concert Orchestra and Esprit Orchestra.
Mr. Gemmell is an avid chamber musician. He is currently the violinist for Ensemble Vivant, with whom he can be heard in several recordings. He is also a member of the Elgin String Quartet and the National Piano Trio. He is a frequent guest artist with New Music Concerts, with whom he performed and led workshops at the National Conservatory of Beijing in 2016, and has been a guest on such series as the Chamber Music Society of Mississauga, Array Music, the Kitchener-Waterloo Chamber Music Society in addition to series across Canada.
Mr. Gemmell is proud to be a member of the faculty for the inaugural season of the Great Lakes International Summer Music Institute held out of Algoma University and is also on faculty at the National Music Camp of Canada. He has taught at the Royal Conservatory of Music and the University of Western Ontario and is a member of the Royal College of Examiners and has led masterclasses and adjudicated at music festivals across Canada.
Mr. Gemmell can be heard in recordings such as the Mozart Effect, in both solo and chamber capacities, and recordings with Ensemble Vivant. He was one of the contributing artists to record the Royal Conservatory of Music’s syllabus on compact disc. He has also recorded other works by Mozart, Brahms, Ravel, Robert A. Baker as well as numerous movie and commercial recordings.
Mr. Gemmell performs on a violin made for him in 2005 by renowned Toronto luthier, Hracth Armenious as well as a violin made in Milan in 1907 by Cipriano Briani.
