This afternoon promises a melodic journey of beloved arias and overtures, spotlighting exceptional guest opera artists.

Leanne Kaufman

Leanne Kaufman is a Toronto-based soprano. Praised for her “vocal fireworks” (Opera Canada) and recognized for her interpretations of Mozart, Leanne has recently made concert debuts of Handel’s Messiah and Mozart’s Requiem and sung performances of Donna Elvira and Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), La Contessa (Le nozze di Figaro), and Musetta (La bohème). Leanne performs regularly with the Canadian Opera Company, covering roles such as Fourth Maid (Elektra), and creating roles in the workshops of COC commissions by Canadian composers, most recently works by Ian Cusson and Ana Sokolovic. She has been a member of the COC Chorus since 2018. Originally from Calgary, Leanne holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of British Columbia and a Master of Music in Opera from the University of Toronto.

Burak Yaman

Turkish-Canadian Burak Yaman is a graduate of Montreal’s Vanier College, where he
continued developing his bass baritone voice and repertoire from his earlier studies in
Ankara. A significant shift in his range has led to new dimensions to his singing, and a
dedication to fall lyric tenor repertoire. Burak is a graduate of the University of Toronto
B.Mus. Voice Performance program.  His appearances with the UofT Opera have
included roles in Kurt Weill’s Street Scene, Aaron Copland’s The Tender Land, student
composer production Disobedience, Arthur Benjamin’s A Tale of Two Cities. With the
Centre for Opera Studies & Appreciation (COSA Canada) he has claimed roles in concert
performances of HMS Pinafore and Ruddigore.
